Improving your surfing skills can greatly enhance your overall experience. Here are some key tips to get you started:

Safety:

safety is our main priority with Hawaiian Boy Surf School and we do assessments on all clients checking your aquatic abilities prior to paddling out. If we feel it's needed, we will run through a water safety lesson assuring that we all have a safe, fun, and successful surf session!

Board Positioning:

  • Find the sweet spot on your board where you feel balanced and in control.

  • Position yourself correctly on the board according to the type of wave you are riding.

Proper Technique for Paddling Your Board

To maximize each stroke while not overexerting yourself, follow these tips:

  • Position yourself correctly on the board to ensure optimal reach and power.

  • Engage your core muscles to provide stability and strength during each stroke.

  • Keep your arms straight and use your upper body to pull through the water efficiently.

  • Focus on a smooth and controlled stroke rather than paddling frantically.

  • Rotate your torso with each stroke to engage more muscles and increase power.

  • Take regular breaks to prevent exhaustion and maintain a consistent paddling rhythm.

Breaking down the process of popping up on your surfboard into step-by-step instructions is key to achieving optimal balance and a stylish, smooth ride.

The initial move to pop up or stand up on your board involves the double knee technique.

After performing the double knee movement, the subsequent step is to move your front foot up and place it in the center of the board, ensuring it is aligned with your hands. Always remembering to keep your hands on your board for that added support in balancing

Next, you should push up off your hands and pivot your knee and foot as you prepare to shift your weight onto both feet. Remember to maintain a wide stance, keep your knees bent, your back straight, and your arms out for balance. Always look forward to prevent falling.

remember these are just brief steps and actual land lessons we perform are fully detailed and will usually run from 10-15 minutes insuring it becomes muscle memory and flows natural as possible.
